India has overhauled its Overseas Citizen of India fee structure and compliance rules this month, implementing the changes through the Bureau of Immigration and Indian missions worldwide, bringing the most significant update to OCI services in years.
Under the revised structure, a fresh OCI application now costs $275 overseas compared to approximately $180 within India. Reissuance services, including those triggered when a cardholder turns 20 or updates personal details, are priced at $25 abroad and $17 within India. For lost or damaged cards, the overseas fee is $100, while renunciation of OCI status is set at $25 overseas.
A key compliance change requires OCI cardholders to upload new passport details and a recent photograph within three months of passport issuance. A late fee of $25 now applies for missing that deadline. Physical card reissuance is mandatory only once, after a new passport is issued when the holder is over 20, with most subsequent renewals completable online at no cost if done within the prescribed window.
Applicants in Canada must now submit applications in person at BLS International centers, with postal submissions discontinued from April 5. Separately, all PIO Cards expired on December 31, 2025, and are no longer valid for entry or stay in India.
