Air India has opened its first signature Maharaja Lounge outside India at San Francisco International Airport, underscoring the carrier’s push to upgrade its global premium experience. The 3,300 square foot space in Terminal A was inaugurated on May 21 by Consul General of India in San Francisco, Srikar Reddy Koppula, who toured the facility after the ribbon cutting.
Designed by hospitality firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, the lounge can host nearly 80 guests and features distinct zones, including the Aviator’s Bar, a main dining area, a private section for First Class passengers, social seating and tarmac view spaces overlooking aircraft operations. Air India said the interiors blend Indian inspired design, regional artwork and installations made from upcycled aircraft components, including a custom Golden Gate Bridge painting that highlights the San Francisco India connection.
The San Francisco facility is the airline’s second signature Maharaja Lounge after its flagship in Delhi and is part of its Vihaan.AI transformation program. With more than 100 weekly flights between North America and India, Air India plans further premium upgrades, from refurbished cabins to additional lounges at key international hubs.
