The US Citizenship and Immigration Services is ramping up its enforcement against immigration fraud, with Director Joseph Edlow warning that previously approved Green Card cases can be reopened and scrutinized, sending a strong signal to thousands of immigrants across the country.
In a recent television interview, Edlow made clear the agency's intent: "We're going back and re-vetting cases for people who were granted Green Cards and other benefits. If you have already done it and you think you have gotten away with it, we are going back."
The USCIS is expanding its investigative capacity by bringing in additional special agents, including armed officers with arrest authority, and launching public tip lines to encourage reporting of suspected fraud. "No tip is too small. We will look into it along with our partners at ICE and CBP. People who are perpetrating fraud, STOP! Because we are going to find you," Edlow said.
The agency is also tightening financial eligibility standards for Green Card applicants, with Edlow stating bluntly: "If you cannot pay for yourself and take care of yourself, you are not going to get a Green Card in this country."
The crackdown marks a significant shift toward a more enforcement driven USCIS operating model under the current administration.
Our message is clear: If you hope to become a lawful resident or American citizen, you must show that you can take care of yourself.
