In one of the most audacious fraud cases in recent US history, two Indian American brothers from Pennsylvania — Bhaskar Savani, 60, and Arun Savani, 58, have been convicted by a federal jury of running a sprawling criminal enterprise that defrauded the US government of over $30 million across multiple states.
The Savani Group, as their network was known, ran at least five simultaneous fraud operations: H-1B visa fraud that exploited Indian workers by forcing them to return portions of their salaries; Medicaid fraud exceeding $32 million through nominee-owned dental clinics; money laundering through a web of shell company bank accounts; tax and wire fraud involving $1.6 million in unreported personal income; and the illegal implantation of prototype dental devices labelled "Not For Human Use" in patients without their knowledge or consent.
The case attracted extraordinary attention after it emerged that both brothers had publicly celebrated their friendship with FBI Director Kash Patel on social media — even as the federal investigation against them was actively underway.
A third defendant, Aleksandra Radomiak, 48, was also convicted for her role in the healthcare fraud scheme. Bhaskar and Arun Savani now face a combined potential sentence of 835 years in prison.
