AI Takes 1,600 Jobs at Atlassian

Atlassian, the Australian software giant behind workplace tools like Jira and Confluence, is slashing approximately 1,600 jobs, roughly 10% of its global workforce, as it pivots aggressively toward artificial intelligence and enterprise growth .

CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes cited the transformative demands of the "AI era" as the driving force, acknowledging in a memo to staff that AI fundamentally changes the skills and roles the company requires . Around 30% of the cuts will hit employees in Australia, where the company is headquartered .

The restructuring comes at a turbulent moment for Atlassian. Its stock has plummeted roughly 64% over the past year, and the overhaul is expected to cost between $225 million and $350 million in severance and office space reductions . Chief Technology Officer Rajeev Rajan will also depart on March 31 .
