Indian Americans have made a remarkable mark in this year's Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans, capturing 11 of the 30 coveted spots in the 2026 cohort — accounting for more than a third of all fellows selected nationwide.
Each fellow receives $90,000 in support of graduate studies, making the recognition both prestigious and financially significant.
The fellowship board described the 2026 selection process as the most competitive in the program's 28 year history, with applications surpassing 3,000 for the first time — a new record. The 11 Indian American recipients stood out in a pool that drew exceptional talent from across the country.
The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships were established to honor the contributions of immigrants and children of immigrants to American society. Fellows are selected based on their potential to make significant contributions to the United States.
The strong showing by Indian Americans underscores the community's growing footprint in American academia and professional life, continuing a trend of high achievement across science, medicine, law, and public service.
