Angana Borah, a doctoral candidate in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan, has been awarded the prestigious Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship, recognizing her exceptional research progress in artificial intelligence and natural language processing.

Borah, who hails from India and completed her undergraduate studies in computer science before earning a master's degree from Georgia Tech, is currently advised by renowned professor Rada Mihalcea at the University of Michigan's Language and Information Technologies Lab.

Her research sits at the intersection of computational linguistics and social science, with a sharp focus on cultural bias, misinformation in large language models, and human interaction with AI systems. The Rackham fellowship will directly support her continued work on building AI systems that are culturally inclusive and socially responsible.

In January 2026, Borah also received the Tinker Research Grant to advance her work on understanding curiosity in humans and AI models. She has published research at top global conferences including ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, and AAAI, establishing herself as a rising voice in the effort to make AI fairer and more representative of diverse global communities.
