State Sen. Aisha Wahab has won the special election for California’s 14th Congressional District, defeating fellow Democrat and BART Board President Melissa Hernandez by roughly 6,000 votes. Wahab will now serve the remainder of former Rep. Eric Swalwell’s term, which runs through January
The two candidates emerged as finalists after the June 16 special primary and now face a rematch in November, when voters will decide who holds the seat for a full two year term. Wahab’s win in the special election gives her an early foothold in Congress and momentum heading into the fall contest against Hernandez.
