Indian American aerospace engineer Srinath Ekkad has been appointed dean of the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, marking a significant leadership addition to the research focused campus. Ekkad, who currently serves as a professor at North Carolina State University, will assume his new role on August 5, 2026, bringing decades of experience in mechanical and aerospace engineering, combustion, and energy systems.
At NC State, Ekkad has held senior academic and administrative roles while leading research in high temperature flows, gas turbine technologies, and advanced diagnostics, areas that closely align with Huntsville’s status as a national hub for aerospace and defense. His appointment is expected to strengthen UAH’s partnerships with industry and federal agencies in the region, deepen its research profile, and expand opportunities for engineering students in sectors such as space, propulsion, and advanced manufacturing.
University officials said Ekkad’s track record in building collaborations, securing research funding, and mentoring graduate students made him a compelling choice to guide the college at a time of rapid technological change and growing demand for skilled engineers.
