India has formally opened AI Summit 2026, the India–AI Impact Summit, in New Delhi, positioning itself at the centre of global efforts to shape the future of artificial intelligence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the meet at Bharat Mandapam, telling world leaders and tech executives that India wants to “bring the world together” on AI and ensure the technology serves humanity, not harms it.
Co‑hosted by NITI Aayog and IndiaAI, the summit is framed around three pillars — People, Planet and Progress — and seven thematic “chakras” that will guide discussions on skills, inclusion, safety, science, innovation, open infrastructure and development‑oriented AI deployments. Delegations from more than 100 countries, along with senior figures from companies such as OpenAI, Google and Microsoft, are attending ministerial roundtables, CEO forums and technical sessions on issues ranging from child safety and deepfakes to compute access for the Global South.
Alongside the main talks, a sprawling AI Expo at Bharat Mandapam is showcasing government platforms, corporate solutions and start‑up innovations in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education and urban services. New Delhi hopes the summit will yield a shared roadmap and outcome document on responsible, trusted and inclusive AI that can feed into wider international standard‑setting — and cement India’s role as a bridge between advanced economies and emerging nations in the AI era.
