PM Modi Inaugurates Noida International Airport at Jewar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Phase 1 of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, formally opening Delhi NCR's second international airport and what Modi called a defining chapter in India's Viksit Bharat mission.

Built at a cost of Rs 11,200 crore and spread across 7,200 acres, the greenfield airport is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually in its first phase, scaling to 70 million passengers at full capacity across all planned phases, which would make it the largest airport in Asia. The first phase features a 3,900 metre runway capable of accommodating wide body aircraft, along with Instrument Landing System technology and advanced airfield lighting.

The airport will be operated by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. Commercial domestic and cargo flights are expected to begin operations between mid April and May 2026, with international flights to follow after final regulatory approvals are secured.

Modi called the airport a boost not just for Noida but for the entire western Uttar Pradesh belt spanning Agra, Mathura, Aligarh and Ghaziabad. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared it a major step toward a Viksit UP and a Viksit Bharat, as India adds yet another landmark infrastructure achievement to its growing portfolio in 2026.
