OpenAI has announced plans to acquire Astral to strengthen its AI coding capabilities.
Astral, known for its popular open-source Python tools, will be integrated into OpenAI’s Codex platform to improve speed and efficiency in AI-assisted development. The company said it will continue supporting Astral’s open-source projects.
The move comes amid rising competition in the AI coding space, especially from Anthropic.
The deal highlights OpenAI’s push to expand its developer ecosystem and lead the AI-driven software development race.
