Melania Trump Walks Into White House With a Robot, Envisions AI as the Future of Teaching Children

First Lady Melania Trump made history at the White House on Wednesday, walking side by side down a red carpeted corridor with Figure 03, an AI powered humanoid robot built by American startup Figure AI, as she convened the inaugural Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit on children, technology and education.

Figure 03, which the company describes as the first American made humanoid to enter the White House, addressed a room filled with first spouses from around the world in eleven languages. "I am Figure 03, a humanoid built for the United States of America. I am honoured to be part of this historic movement to empower children through technology and education," it said.

Melania argued that AI powered humanoids could serve as deeply personalised teachers, capable of adapting instantly to a child's pace and emotional state while patiently developing "deep critical thinking and independent reasoning abilities." She declared: "The future of AI is personified. Very soon, artificial intelligence will move from our mobile phones to humanoids that deliver utility."

The event drew a pointed contrast with a Los Angeles jury ruling the same day that found Meta and YouTube liable for creating addictive, harmful products targeting young users, underscoring the unresolved tension at the heart of every conversation about technology and children.
