Toaster

About The Movie:

A miserly man tries to retrieve a toaster he gifted after a couple calls off their wedding, but is inadvertently drawn into murder.

Critics Review :In a world where every rupee counts for Ramakant, Toaster serves up a bizarre yet entertaining story of extreme frugality taken to absurd limits. Directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary, the film blends satire, dark comedy, and slice-of-life drama into a narrative that is as chaotic as it is amusing.

At the heart of the film is Rajkummar Rao, who delivers a standout performance as Ramakant — a compulsive miser who treats spending money like a personal failure. His portrayal is layered, balancing humor with a certain emotional vulnerability that makes the character oddly relatable despite his extreme behavior.

Sanya Malhotra plays Shilpa, his wife, who is stuck in the monotony of domestic life and yearns for excitement. While she brings charm to the role, her character feels underutilized, leaving audiences wanting more depth and screen presence.

The film takes an unexpected turn when a simple wedding gift — a toaster — becomes the center of chaos. What follows is a chain of increasingly messy and absurd situations, as Ramakant goes to ridiculous lengths to recover it. This central premise cleverly drives the narrative, turning a mundane object into a symbol of obsession and control.

The supporting cast, including Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, and Seema Pahwa, adds layers of eccentricity and humor. Archana Puran Singh, in particular, surprises with a bold and unconventional character that adds an unexpected edge to the story.

While Toaster shines in its humor and performances, it slightly loses grip in the second half. The narrative begins to feel stretched, and the screenplay thins out as it moves toward the climax. However, the film manages to stay engaging thanks to its quirky tone and unpredictable situations.

⭐ Critics Verdict:

Toaster is a one-time watch that delivers laughs with a side of satire. Despite its uneven pacing, strong performances and an offbeat storyline make it worth checking out.
