Rama married Sita, the beautiful princess of Mithila. Her father, King Janaka, had organized a Swayamvar. It was a contest where princes from across the land had to prove their strength to win her hand. The challenge was to lift and string the mighty bow of Lord Shiva.
None other than Rama was successful. With his unparalleled strength and virtue, Rama lifted the bow effortlessly. Not only did he string the divine bow, but he even broke it. That way, the Lord won Sita’s hand.
After a few months of marriage, Dashrath planned to crown Rama as the ruler of Ayodhya. Queen Kaikeyi reminded him of a promise he had once made to her: to crown her son as king. Bound by his word, Dashrath reluctantly asked beloved Rama to go into 14 years of exile in the forest. Rama accepted it, reflecting his deep respect for his father’s promise.
He left his palace for exile. His wife and loyal brother, Lakshmana, also accompanied him.
During their exile, the demon emperor Ravana abducted Sita, taking her to Lanka. With the help of the devoted Hanuman and an army of monkeys, Rama waged a mighty battle. He defeated Ravana and rescued Sita. The victory also symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. The role of Hanuman in the battle was significant. He played a crucial role in the victory. Hanuman is regarded as an ardent devotee of Ram.
After the battle, the exile came to an end. Rama returned to Ayodhya. He was crowned emperor in a grand celebration. He ruled with devotion, justice, and righteousness.
